<p>Servals can legally be pets in most states, but should they be? In 2022, the Big Cat Public Safety Act was passed, prohibiting anyone in the United States from owning a lion, tiger, or other large cat. Unfortunately, the serval was not covered in the Act. In North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky, Nevada, Wisconsin, Texas, and Delaware, it is 100% legal to own a serval, which is still 100% a wild animal, no matter where you put it.</p>

<p>The ethical question of whether servals should be kept as pets is easy if you respect nature. Servals can be kept in apartment buildings, with other pets and even children, but it is not likely that a properly educated human would want to live in a house with a 40-pound wild animal. Frank was a Bengal cat breeder, and it is possible that she and Wood were discussing breeding Wood&#8217;s male serval, Ernie, to Frank&#8217;s female, and that Wood would be allowed to keep one kitten from the pairing. <p>Standing nearly as tall as a grown adult, emus are the second-largest birds on the planet. Their powerful legs can deliver kicks strong enough to seriously injure someone, which is one reason they&#8217;re not your typical backyard pet.</p>

<p>With ears that seem too big for their tiny bodies, fennec foxes look like something out of a storybook. But don&#8217;t let their adorable appearance fool you—they&#8217;re wild animals through and through.</p>



<p>Nocturnal by nature, these desert dwellers have specialised diets and strong instincts that make them challenging to care for. They&#8217;re not the cuddly lap pets they might appear to be.</p>



<p>Many jurisdictions mandate permits or licences for fennec foxes, while others prohibit them altogether. Their exotic care requirements and potential for unexpected behaviour make them a regulated species in much of the country.</p>

<p>Coatis belong to the raccoon family, and they share that trademark intelligence and curiosity. But unlike their masked cousins, these animals need even more mental and physical stimulation to stay happy.</p>
