Choosing the right dog for your family is an important decision, as some breeds are more suited for family life than others. For example, because of their amiable nature, many families gravitate toward the ever-popular Labrador or Golden Retriever. However, there are many unique breeds that make equally excellent family pets. Read on to learn about ten unusual dogs that just might make the perfect addition to your household.

 

1. Leonbergers Are Massive, Family-oriented Dogs

The Leonberger may be huge, but its gentle disposition makes it an ideal choice for families with children. This affectionate dog is loyal, loving, and possesses an innate desire to protect and assist. Although Leonbergers do not have excessive energy, they are large dogs that do best in bigger homes with plenty of outdoor space. These tiny pups weigh about four to eight pounds, making them a great dog choice for apartment dwelling families. Biewers get along with everyone: children, seniors, other dogs, and even cats.
