This historic breed has become rarer over the years, they are recognizable by their spotted coat, muscular build, and long hind legs. The Egyptian Mau is the fastest domestic cat in the world. They were accepted into The International Cat Association (TICA) in 1979.

Loyal and cheerful, these sensitive cats also love to snuggle. They are very smart and have been known to learn how to turn on faucets or open doors. These intriguing cats love playing in the water and try to join you in the shower. Egyptian Mau prefers hot temperatures and can develop health issues when exposed to colder climates.

Singapura

One of the friendliest cat breeds, the Singapura is playful and loves following you everywhere. They are one of the smallest cat breeds and can easily fit in small spaces so do not be surprised to find them tucked away in unusual places while napping. Sharing their home with other pets is no problem for a Singapura.

They have large ears and almond-shaped eyes, giving them a surprised look. Their temperament is like a Burmese cat, full of affection and mischief. Singapura cats are very inquisitive and can be found dancing on your computer keyboard, batting things off counters, or chasing balls down the hall. They are social little cats and love spending time with you and other cats.

Sphynx

This hairless, regal cat breed is one of the most unusual domestic breeds and is also one of the priciest. They are extremely playful and friendly, getting along with almost everyone coming into their home. The Sphynx is often referred to as hairless, but they do have a dusting of very fine hairs on their bodies making them feel like peach fuzz or suede.

Sphynx may look stern, with a frowning expression, but they are silly and love playing tricks. Being energetic, agile, and curious, interactive games are the best way to keep them occupied. They love being an active member of their family and prefer to entertain their people rather than go off by themselves to play or sleep. They are one of the friendliest cat breeds.

This loveable cat is also somewhat high-maintenance so read up on care for a Sphynx before bringing one home. When cold weather comes around, have plenty of cat sweaters for your Sphynx to keep them snug. Sunscreen is also required when they are going to be in the sunlight for too long, even if they are indoors. They are extremely susceptible to skin damage and sunburns.

Lykoi

If you have ever dreamed of coming face-to-face with a werewolf, the Lykoi is the cat for you. They have a strong resemblance to the werewolves seen in movies and television. They have shorter hair around their mouth, nose, and eyes that are lighter colored. This accentuates their facial features making them look beastly, like a werewolf. They have a broken coat that is more salt and pepper than black or white.

Lykoi cats only share an outward resemblance to the fabled werewolf. These weird but loveable cats are affectionate, playful, and very loyal. They make the best companions for everyone in the family. There are times when a Lykoi will lose all its fur, making it somewhat resemble the Sphynx cat. But, unlike the Sphynx, the Lykoi does grow most of its fur back.

Ocicat

Created by crossing Abyssinian and Siamese cats, the Ocicat breed came into existence and was registered with the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1966. They are considered medium to large-sized domestic cats with short, smooth coats. They are recognizable by their markings which cover their entire bodies.

Your home becomes their playground and anything left out is fair game when they are in a playful mood. Make sure you have a toy box filled with fun and interesting toys for your Ocicat. You may find a shower buddy because these cats love water. They like to welcome strangers and are generally very friendly. Since they are so friendly and playful, they do get bored. You may consider two of these exotic cats so they can keep each other company.

Whether you are a first-time cat owner and looking for a unique, or weird, cat to bring home or you are a seasoned cat lover wanting something out of the ordinary, these 5 weird cat breeds stand out in a crowd and should not be dismissed simply because they seem a bit odd.
